DELICIOUS RECIPE FOR CHRISTMAS

“Gingerbread Cookies”

 Ingredients

  • 3/4 cup butter
  • 1 cup white sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1/4 cup molasses
  • 2 cups flour
  • 1 tablespoon ground ginger
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • decorating sugars, icing(recipe below) or candy

Procedure

  1. Cream the butter, sugar, egg and molasses with a mixer.
  2. In a separate bowl, stir together the flour, ginger, baking powder, cinnamon and salt.
  3. Add the dry ingredients to the bowl of wet ingredients and mix. The dough will be hard and hand mixing might be preferable.
  4. Roll out the dough with a rolling pin to a thickness of 1/8 inch.
  5. Use a cookie cutter to cut out gingerbread people shapes. Using Christmas trees and star shapes are fun as well.
  6. Alternatively, if time is short, the cookie dough can be hand-rolled into balls and slightly flattened with a fork.
  7. If you are decorating before baking, decorate as desired with colored sugar, bits of Christmas cherries or mini M&M's
  8. Bake in a 350 degree oven for 12 to 15 minutes
  9. Makes 20-24 cookies depending on shape and size
Cool cookies completely before decorating with icing. Icing can be used as glue for small candies or to mark the facial features and clothes.
